I honestly thought she would be a good addition if the movie was just. Then at the end, Finn tries to have an arc where he attempts to give his life for an ideal, instead of just running. Then as the movie progresses, he seems to stop giving a shit and. Most people in my experience hate her for the same reason I kinda do - she ruined Finn's arc (what little their was) and she herself was a tacked on forced Character that was dropped right in the middle of the already established Poe Finn Rey triangle.įinn's first damn words in TLJ say it all - 'Where's Rey?!' It's a pretty commonplace piece of a hero's journey and can be traced to an identifiable origin with Rose.
It's odd to me that she hit a nerve with so many, because a character having a confident viewpoint the audience can see right through is something people are often charmed by. Hundreds of Rose's allies die because of a plan she helped engineer. The arms dealers sell to the Resistance as well as the First Order. In my opinion a character having a faulty viewpoint is only a flaw if the film itself doesn't challenge it, but TLJ does. She's irritable and angry and quick to generalize because.yeah, wouldn't you be? Plus, her viewpoint is rarely validated. The fact that Rose is processing grief throughout the entirety of TLJ is something I rarely see brought up. Not only the injustice against her family, but the recent death of her sister.
